THE WALL
A metaphor for Europe's predicament in relation to the world, an invisible force will erode time and space.

Yan Pat To's best German creative partner, director Thomas Krupa, featuring an award-winning VR work.

Adapted from the novel of the same name, The Wall  by Austrian author Marlen Haushofer.
Commissioned for production by Schauspiel Essen in 2022.

Martina, Hugo, Luise, and their loyal dog Lynx head to a hunting lodge in the Alps. However, after Hugo and Luise go out to a tavern, they never return. Martina and the dog attempt to walk to the village for help, but they are stopped by a mysterious invisible wall. Even trying to return to the lodge proves futile. Time feels frozen, and space becomes increasingly oppressive. Faced with such a survival dilemma, how will she respond?"

Audiences will wear VR devices throughout the experience. There is no live performance. The 360-degree live-action filming will immerse everyone in a world of loneliness and oppression, allowing them to feel the darkest and most fearful moments of Martina and Lynx.

  • 2025.01.18 (Sat) 8pm features the English session, and with post-performance meet-the-artist session.
  • 2025.01.16-17 (Thu - Fri) 8pm will include post-performance meet-the-artist sessions, with director Thomas Krupa participating to share his experiences in German VR creation.
